AGL SIGNS at Gloucester NSW |
The Macarthur Wind Farm is a wind farm under construction in Victoria, Australia. The project is located in Macarthur, Victoria on a 5,500 ha site and it has been permitted to generate up to 420 MW.
The wind farm will comprise 140 3 MW Vestas V112 wind turbines manufactured in Denmark. It is expected to be the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere, generating enough power for 220,000 homes and abating 1.7 million tons of greenhouse gases annually.

The project is estimated to cost A$1 billion and is due for completion in 2013. It is constructed by Vestas and Leighton Contractors. The first completed turbines have been connected to the grid in September 2012.
The project was developed by a joint venture formed by AGL Energy and Meridian Energy. In 2013, Meridian sold its share to Malakoff Corporation Berhad.
What I find difficult to understand is why there is the need for a Malaysian Electricity Company to be owning any of this. Why is our Wind power owned by overseas investment. Surely there are companies in Australia who would like to invest in this type of energy.
The infrastructure build by Leightons and Vestas is in my dodgy brothers. It appears to be this because its another contract for mates who appease the rich energy companies. These companies, and there are hundreds of these, have already done so much damage to this country. Can they be trusted to do the right thing with the turbines on the wind farms.
I highly doubt this. I have seen the damage to country first hand by what they term as best practice and if this is what is termed best practice you would be real glad they are not Airline pilots because if they were we would all be dead ten flights ago.
I highly doubt that any of this is on the up and up. The feed in tarrifs on solar power alone has been halved to 20 cents from 40 cents. The Coal fired and Gas fired stations are getting some sort of weirdo preferences in parliament and those ordinary Australians who invested in Solar roof panels to feed in are now being shafted. It it a surprise this has happened, no not really. This is how these greedy conglomerates work. A scheme that killed people is now a white elephant because the government is scared of its own past decisions.
We, as the people of Australia, will not sit down for this any longer. We will just keep fighting to see a fairer Australia for our children and Grand Children to live in. If we let this continue unabated with Coal Seam Gas mining to fire power stations we will have a dead Australia. Our entire land will be with out water and we will resemble a moon scape. The amount of saline water falling onto land is criminal.

Macarthur Wind Farm Update from AGL's website
On Site
Commencement of Operation: The wind farm was connected to the
electricity grid in late September and began generating electricity from
the first wind turbines on 30 September 2012.
The 33kV transmission line is now having final stringing of the
conductors which will allow connection to the northernmost 70 turbines
in the wind farm.
127 of the total number of 140 wind turbines are now erected. These
turbines will be progressively commissioned as power becomes available
to various parts of the wind farm. The wind farm is expected to become
fully operational by early 2013.
Roads Update
Road Users Alert: Road users are asked to take special care when
travelling in the vicinity of the wind farm. Wind turbines have
commenced operation and may provide a distraction to road users with the
potential to cause accidents. Please maintain normal safe driving
practices and should you wish to observe any wind turbines in operation
please pull over to a safe location on the roadside.
Speed limits in the vicinity of the wind farm have been reduced for the duration of the project.
All deliveries of wind turbine components are now complete.
Community Focus
AGL, Meridian Energy, Vestas and Leighton Contractors are all
contributing to various community projects, including upgrading sporting
facilities, augmenting health care equipment, improved child care
facilities and development of public spaces. The communities of
Macarthur and Hawkesdale will see the benefits of these projects in the
coming months.
