Coffs Harbour Might get an Artificial Reef

Putting Coff's on the map will put Urunga on the map also!

This week we saw quite a strong southerly swell hit the coastline and there was at times some real quality beach breaks to be had, although it was in short bursts and hard to pick that perfect wave.

The northern protected corners still seem to be suffering from the amount of sand loss from the heavy north winds we've seen over the last couple of months.

Seeing a few southerlies rolling past our coast is a positive sign for some sand returning and fingers crossed we see more of them this summer season.

The artificial reef concept for the protection of the northern wall seems to be viewed as a potential option and having a credible wave out there for the whole community to use would be a tremendous asset to tourism and trade.

It would put Coffs Harbour back on the map in terms of it being a major travel destination.

Urunga

Urunga is a small town on in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, in Bellingen Shire. It is famous for its surf spots. At the 2006 census, Urunga had a population of 1,919

Urunga is the place where the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers join the Pacific Ocean. The charming town is just a 20-minute drive south of Coffs Harbour and 15 minutes from Bellingen.

The town is well known for its waterways and peaceful layed back lifestyle. Swimming, Fishing, Boating and golfing are just some of the good things the visitors and  locals of Urunga get up to.

  The foreshores area is one of my favorite places and I spend a great deal of time there,  sporting facilities of golf and bowling and of course fishing.  The local hotel is old and retains some of its old world charm.  A couple of  cafés adorn the sidewalk.

Walking out on the boardwalk across the mangroves of the river estuary to the beach is a daily ritual for hundreds each day.  To get to the entrance you drive into the Urunga Heads Caravan Park and follow the road straight ahead to the bottom.

The trains still stop here in Urunga but the original railway station is now gone sadly, there is a sterile platform and shelter affair now replacing the original.

Over the last few weeks I have had to sit through situations that have been highlighted to me by other professionals as hideous.  The cognitive dissonance I feel is outrageous and now I have put it in the hands of the Ombudsman now.   They can sift through this  mess.  As far as we can see, a fair deal has not been seen here with this situation.

Yesterday I tried to email the ombudsman's office with a great deal of material and it all came back to me so then I had to print it out and post it to the NSW Local Government Ombudsman's Office as per the phone call last week.   Because of this I have written down the complete description here of their
capacity to act and who and what the ombudsman's office is.

The NSW Ombudsman

The NSW Ombudsman is an independent and impartial watchdog established by the Ombudsman Act 1974. We are the State’s Parliamentary Ombudsman. We are independent of the government of the day and accountable to the public through Parliament itself.

Our central goal is to keep government agencies and some non-government organisations accountable by promoting good administrative conduct, fair decision-making, high standards of service delivery and the protection of the rights of people in NSW.
Like many other Ombudsman around the world, our office was modeled on the Justitie-Ombudsman created in Sweden in 1809. The primary purpose of that body was to investigate complaints about government administration.
Loosely translated, the term Ombudsman means ‘the citizen’s defender’ or ‘representative of the people’.
The current Ombudsman is Bruce Barbour. He has been the Ombudsman since June 2000 and is the fifth person to hold that office.
