Violence against Protestors was Unprovoked - Sydney University Protest

Education Cuts Protest May 2014

Interview with USYD Law Professor Simon Rice
23/10/2020 BY PAUL GREGOIRE

Of late, Sydney University Law Professor Simon Rice has been running an extracurricular project, which involves overseeing some students working on reforming protest laws. Indeed, over recent years, state laws have been gradually encroaching upon the right to demonstrate.

So, as there was an on campus USYD student rally organised for 14 October, the professor suggested his students with a focus on protest accompany him to observe the demonstration as part of their research.

Protesting is a fraught activity in light of the Police Violence in each state against protestors. You can almost guarantee you will be assaulted by Police. You will be assaulted even if you are observing, for example taking photographs of the protest. The Police seemingly act how ever they want and when questioned about violence, they deny it.

Federal Services ....

IMG 5949

Privatization is the buzz word around at the moment.  We have a state and Federal government who are both big on privatization. But how far do people want to think about this as a real concern?

What is already in place here in Australia that is work ready to be changed over immediately the trade deals come into play?

The Australian Public Service Department has been largely contracted out to private corporations.  Immigration Centres are run by Serco Corporation.  My concern at present is with the Police Force of each state as well as our Federal Police Force.  What would life be like under a privatized police service?

Have the officers themselves thought about this scenario becoming a reality?  Has the Police Union addressed this matter?  These are all questions I have about this.

If I were to rely on my spidey sense I would have to say its a real concern.

The Minister's Council on Asylum Seekers and Detention provides independent advice to the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection on policies...   So when you read through you begin to wonder why would SERCO want to cut them out?  See the PDF
.http://www.border.gov.au/AccessandAccountability/Documents/FOI/FA140901146.pdf#search=Serco

There are a lot of reasons why so much privatization is a concern because of the TPP (trade agreements)

British owned corporation SERCO are raking in the money from asylum seekers and detention centres here in Australia.  I find it interesting that it is one of the biggest companies in the world and its British.  (Colonists).
Read this story about "What is SERCO Hiding" from the Sydney Morning Herald in May 2013.
Excerpt:
“Serco's transition from reporting entity in 2003 to non-reporting entity in 2012 is another in a growing list of known examples of bad financial reporting practice. That list seems to be growing in size even faster than Serco.”
Below here is a tweet I have read that gives me more cause for concern regarding this.

Mobile drug Test NSW

A faulty product be pushed onto the unsuspecting public.  It reminds me of the questionnaire the schools used for the safe children check.  On the same line in the same sentence you were to answer yes or no to whether you had had sex offense or drug charges.  With such ambiguity, what is one answering yes or no to exactly, and these mobile drug tests are the same.  They are throwing up false positives and the government continues to peddle this.  Because of that fact alone - its not about safety of the public on public roads, its about revenue raising how ever which way they can and this will back fire on the Government in the end and cost taxpayers.

Shooter 15 years old @ Parramatta, Sydney.

The gunman who shot dead a police staffer was a 15-year-old who had visited Parramatta Mosque on his way to commit murder, the Daily Telegraph is reporting.

To have used the *PORS Squad on grandmothers at Glenugie (near Grafton NSW) when we have issues brewing like above and then to have the audacity to heap environmental activism in with Terrorism and people like the above once again is ludicrous.

IMG 8067.4 Glenugie's Black Monday
At Glenugie.
Above is a picture of a cop at Glenugie.  He was one of many that were used to set upon a peaceful group of people trying to protect their land and water from environmental terrorism committed by Coal Seam Gas Companies who lie through their teeth about the detrimental effects to the water table and to the land surrounding the well head.

I believe the Police Minister has to get his priorities right, and the absolute nature of the tragedy of the shooting at Parramatta shows that police are being used for the wrong purpose.  The ability for these bully boy Mining Companies to be able to call up the Police Minister and have every high level cop holding down old ladies, grinding their faces in the bitumen, all the while using force upon people who are not resisting is sheer madness.  It has to stop.

No one would know whether or not these environmental groups have been infiltrated by Islamic extremists to know when the *PORS will be drawn away to a Mining incident at the whim of a mining company, and then.... they commit their terrorist act.

I am sure they have thought of is while watching the elite police being used in such a manner so often that it is the norm.

The PM is locking down this great land as fast as he can?

A couple of days ago the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott announced he would jail people for standing up for their mother country which he carefully calls fighting with extremists.
Talking on national security the Abbott stated : "My unambiguous message to all Australians who fight with terrorist groups is that you will be arrested, prosecuted and jailed for a very long time."

"Legislation to create new terrorist offenses and to extend existing powers to monitor or to detain terror suspects will be introduced this week," the prime minister said.
The Abbott outlined a stack of responses to the so called  perceived heightened threat of a domestic terrorist attack here on Aussie soil.

$630 million in funding is being directed to police, customs,  and intelligence agencies.  Biometric scanners will be at all international airports in the next year the Abbott said.  Read more here

The jails in Australia are overflowing now. But that is another subject, or is it?

IMG GLENUGIE BLOCKADE

Australia's jails are already over the top full.  There is no more room for ordinary lawbreakers to be locked up and the PM is locking up more and more of those each day as well.

This will have a dire flow on effect down the track because the unions will say they can't operate this way and the government  will then return with the grounds to see the complete privatization of the jails and the police service in Australia.

I can hear the legislation forming on the paper as I write here.  There will be no more police union intervention to stop any police actions the government narcissists want with an introduced privatized sector here in policing.

This scenario by police union members occurred with Bentley Blockade where 900 officers were to be dispatched to break the blockade on the North Coast of New South Wales and the police union spoke out against this vehemently.    To avoid this happening in the future, government will privatize the police force as soon as possible and  I envisage this will come onto the list within the 12 months.

In the mean time the country is now running on terror and people are saying the most bizarre things.  I found myself saying strange things also and so I got my burka out for a spin in case I needed to wear one for safety.  One never knows when one needs to blend in to the crowd and keep their head down low and go go go.

Another statement from Abbott that does not makes sense is the figures here:
"60 Australians were known to be fighting in Iraq and Syria, 20 had already returned to Australia while another 100 actively support the militant".
He really is scared of these people it appears.   Either this or he is being a war monger and whipping people up into a frenzy about all of this and getting hate firmly back on the agenda in the disguise of a peace agenda.

Australians no longer fall for these constructed lies.  Australians want more from a leader than to take us into another war.  We have evolved but it is clear that our prime minister hasn't.  (for the record - I am not sure that is even possible)

ACT UP for BENTLEY BLOCKADE - Please Share this.

*PLEASE SHARE*

Facebook - Radha Sharon Wikinson
PHONE N.S.W. PREMIER & POLICE MINISTER TODAY: "SAY NO TO FORCE ON BENTLEY"

Police are expected in large numbers to the Bentley Blockade protectors site near Lismore, where the community are opposing gas drilling by Metgasco in the Northern Rivers.
The date of the 19th May has been confirmed for up to 900 riot police.
The community believe this to be both unnecessary and an absolute breach of their democratic right to express their dissent to this industry and that the Government has not heard nor acted on the communities overwhelming statement of being a gasfield free community of which 98.6% have voted against gasfields in the region.

The Northern Rivers call on people everywhere, and particularly here in the cities to support their opposition to this industry and demand that the call for police presence cease as it is a breach on their local communities' (and the people of NSW) democratic rights. This level of force is dangerous and unnecessary to a community which is engaging in peaceful and non violent direct action to protect the site.

TODAY (WEDNESDAY) IS A GOOD TIME TO CONTACT “STUART AYRES” AS IT IS HIS FIRST DAY ON THE JOB AS MINISTER FOR POLICE AND ALSO BENTLEY FARMERS ARE IN SYDNEY TO SPEAK TO MINISTERS IN PARLIAMENT HOUSE ABOUT THE MATTER.

POINTS TO MAKE

  • - Request the Government cancel sending in riot squad and police presence and make clear to them that they should enable the community, who are wholly opposed to this industry, to peacefully assemble and exercise their right to object to Metgasco's gasfield exploration plans at the site.
  • - Request that the Government immediately freeze the licence and exploration activity and review the situation, and that based on the fact that the community are unequivocally opposed to the exploration of unconventional gas by Metgasco (98.6% say NO) that the exploration be cancelled to reflect democratic process, and the Petroleum exploration licence be revoked by the NSW Govt. as the gas company have “no social licence”.

Abbott Government tries to shut us down!

The Abbott government wants to make boycotts and any sort of protest action an illegal act, criminalizing our attempts to bring justice and education to the general public and to crush our ability to hold corporations to account when and where  they jeopardize our health and or our environment.

IMG GLENUGIE BLOCKADE
Police working for Mining Companies not protecting the people. Protecting large corporations.

Sign the petition now to tell the Australian government not to criminalize consumer boycotts.

Under the proposed law, it would be illegal to call on another individual or company to boycott a product because it was unsafe or destroying the environment. Landmark campaigns like those that have saved Tasmania's forests and challenged live animal exports would suddenly be illegal.  Residents groups have been billed for protest actions that have held up productivity with mining companies.  This was eventually thrown out in the Environmental Courts.  This is why they want to change these laws now.

It's explicitly designed to silence groups like Greenpeace and SumOfUs , and any Protector based groups with the environment and peoples health as their priority.  Liberal Senator Richard Colbeck went on record to say that he is "very concerned" about what environmental groups were doing, and that he wants to stop them.

The head of a forest industry association even said the new law was needed to stop "market sabotage" by environmental groups like us.

We can't let this attack on free speech and environmental protection go unchallenged. Senator Colbeck hasn't committed to the new law yet -- he's testing the waters to see what reaction he gets. Let's come together now to demand the Abbott government drops this crazy assault on our rights.

Companies to get protection from activists' boycotts, From The Australian, 23 September 2013

IMG GLENUGIE BLOCKADE
CONSERVATION groups seeking boycotts of products linked to alleged poor environmental practices may soon be liable for prosecution under consumer law.

The move, which could severely hamper market-based campaigns by groups such as Markets for Change and GetUp!, is to be pursued by the Abbott government.
Parliamentary secretary for agriculture Richard Colbeck told The Australian the move would prevent green groups from holding companies to ransom in their markets.

Monsanto March in Bellingen Photo by Solveig Larsen
"We'll be looking at the way some of the environmental groups work because we are very concerned about some of the activities they conduct in the markets," Senator Colbeck said. "They have exemptions for secondary boycott activities under the Consumer and Competition Act. We are going to have a complete review of the act.
"And one of the things I'd be looking at would be to bring a level playing field back so that environment groups are required to comply with the same requirements as business and industry."
The move has strong backing within the Liberal and Nationals parties, as well as among sections of the ALP, concerned about groups targeting the customers of timber and agricultural products in campaigns against old-growth logging and live-animal exports.
Section 45D of the act prevents action to hinder or prevent a third person supplying goods to, or buying them from, another person. The law restrains business from unfair dealings and trade unions from dragging third parties into industrial disputes via sympathy strikes or trade boycotts. However, section 45DA exempts people from the secondary boycott provisions if their actions are "substantially related to environmental or consumer protection".

The timber industry has long complained about green groups organizing boycotts and campaigns to pressure their customers not to accept products sourced from so-called high-conservation-value forests. The tactic has been used successfully in Australia and in Japan to pressure timber companies such as Gunns and Ta Ann to shift out of contentious forest areas and to adopt top-flight green certification.
Senator Colbeck also told The Australian the Coalition would push ahead with its policy to ask UNESCO's World Heritage Committee to rescind the recent Gillard government listing of an additional 100,000ha of Tasmania's forests. "That was our commitment to the Tasmanian people and we intend to carry through with our commitments," he said.
"So we will sit down with our departments and work through processes, as far as that is concerned, and look to see how we go about doing it."
He was not swayed by calls from the timber industry - including the CFMEU forest union, Ta Ann and the Forest Industries Association of Tasmania - for the policy to be scrapped because it would jeopardize environmentalists' support for the sector.
The Tasmanian Forest Agreement - a landmark peace deal three years in the making - has seen the peak green groups join industry on joint trade missions to win back markets lost during the so-called forest wars. However, signatories to the deal fear seeking to unwind the World Heritage listing at the heart of the agreement would destroy it.
