Historic Bi-Centenary Protest

The Institute Times, Self-determination 1980 - 1989

The Institute Times

Aboriginal People Protest Bicentenary

The Bicentenary of Australia was celebrated on Australian Day in 1988. It marked 200 years since the arrival of the First Fleet of British convict ships at Sydney in 1788.
The Bicentenary celebration day also marked a day of protest by Aboriginal peoples.

Yesterday myself and a friend re watched this video... this was 30 years ago on the 26th January in 1988.  Nothing has gotten better with regards to justice where the remaining nations that are left after colonization genocidal actions by successive governments and the general public at large are concerned.  Ignorance is no longer an excuse when it comes to this serious issue.  This is a crime against humanity.

After you have watched this one above you can click through HERE and go to an SBS site that has another version.

White Australia has a Black History

Today, the 26th January, is marked officially as "Australia Day", however, to Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders (the Indigenous people of Australia), the day is known as Invasion Day and/or Survival Day.  On this day, we commemorate and remember the struggle of Indigenous Australians against colonization, dispossession and injustice and continue to mark the fact that the struggle for Indigenous Australian rights continues in this country.

The Indiscriminate Murder of the Original people of this Land, Australia.

 (fascimile only)

Gippsland squatter Henry Meyrick wrote a letter home to his relatives in England in 30th April, 1846.

"... The blacks are very quiet here now, poor wretches. No wild beast of the forest was ever hunted down with such unsparing perseverance as they are. Men, women and children are shot whenever they can be met with ...
I have protested against it at every station I have been in Gippsland, in the strongest language, but these things are kept very secret as the penalty would certainly be hanging.
... For myself, if I caught a black actually killing my sheep, I would shoot him with as little remorse as I would a wild dog, but no consideration on earth would induce me to ride into a camp and fire on them indiscriminately, as is the custom whenever the smoke is seen. They [the Aborigines] will very shortly be extinct. It is impossible to say how many have been shot, but I am convinced that not less than 450 have been murdered altogether..."

Survival Day 2016

IMG 2242 Survival Day 2016

In Deepwater 2016 we stand along side of the rest of the nation who are standing in protest against the crowns theft of a country and the subsequent genocide of people all over this land by the colonizers.

It is also a day to pay respect  and celebrate the Survival of these very same people.  The Indigenous cultures of Australia are the oldest living cultures in the world. One of the reasons they have survived for so long is their ability to adapt to change.

Its best to do something positive to honor this and so I created.... I feel a connection doing this.

Where we are here in Deepwater is the established territory of the Ngarabal people, who had occupied and carefully cultivated the country for thousands of years. The Ngarabal name for Deepwater is Talgambuun, meaning dry country with many dead trees.

I pay respects to the Ngarabal elders past and present and say thank you to them for the opportunity to stand today on their land with honor.

I have lived on Gumbaynggirr country for a very long time until recently so I pay my respects to all of the elders in all of those places and say thank you to the land for sustaining me.

Firstly we hung out our very colourful  flag.  Hanging the flag openly out the front is actually a common occurrence because I am keen to open dialogue with anyone who wants to talk to me about this and the flag is a great talking point for inquisitive people.

I wrote in chalk across our drive way ... "No Pride in Genocide".  and on the footpath Survival Day 2016 to mark the occasion as a day of survival of the first peoples of this land and the desire to see justice for what has occurred here.

IMG 2256 Survival Day 2016

I sat outside and made a beautiful bag from plastic bags I had folded and cut to recycle into something very useful instead of it being in an animals stomach and thought all day about the old girls sitting around making things to help them on their daily ritual of taking care of family on country.  Weaving being a skill these ladies all knew well and thrived on teaching their young the skill to pass this on.  So I remembered their spirit while sitting all day and completing the dilly bag.

IMG 2262.1 A bag for Sharon

At all the capital cities around Australia and at various regional areas ceremony was held to mark today as a day of mourning for the Aboriginal Culture nationwide.  Each year more and more people wake up to the fact that Australia Day Celebrations are a smash in the face to the indigenous.

There is a referendum planned to have the Recognize issue voted on.  Its got to be either thrown out or it has to include the words TREATISE along side of RECOGNIZE  otherwise it is clearly another white man scam to further disenfranchise aboriginal people from their culture.

5th Global Call to Action

  • Stand with us to show your opposition to the threatened closure of remote Aboriginal communities by the WA State Government & Federal Australian Government
  • #SOSBLAKAUSTRALIA –
Stop the Forced Closure of Aboriginal Communities

In the early hours of Black Friday, 13 March 2015, growing frustrations in the Aboriginal community had reached a pressure point. After the repeated failure of successive Government’s to honor Australia’s First Nations at the most basic of levels, the perfect storm was brewing. Compounding this, the global lurch to the right under the guise of ‘austerity’, had seemingly become a code-switch of Government to normalize racism, bigotry, oppression and genocide.

Since the appointment of Tony Abbott as Australia’s 28th Prime Minister in 2013, a cauldron of dissent has manifested across Australia generally. Labeled as “One Term Tony”, the incumbent Prime Minister is world renown for an ever growing list of contentious and inappropriate comments; in diplomacy "Look, I'm going to shirtfront Mr Putin ... you bet I am."; war mongering “We are ready to do what we must as a government and as a nation to keep our country safe.”; on Asylum Seekers "If stopping the boats means being criticised because I'm not giving information that would be of use to people smugglers, so be it"; global-warming “I am, as you know, hugely unconvinced by the so-called settled science on climate change” amongst others. Abbott’s homage to the British Monarchy returned the archaic practice of knighthood and resulted in a glorified visit to Australia by the heir apparent. His unashamed concessions for mining alongside corporate interests are rampant all the while concealing and sidestepping the clarification of his citizenship, a question remaining unanswered, which would determine whether he is indeed legal to hold office in the first place.

So it was of no real surprise that the self-appointed Minister for Women’s Interests and the self-declared Prime Minister for Indigenous Affairs would blunder his way into infamy with a denigrating remark toward Aboriginal people living on their traditional lands, which Abbott defined as a “lifestyle choice”. His remark was made on a surprise visit to a mining stronghold in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, on the traditional lands of the Maduwangka people, now forever scarred by the “Super-pit” a viciously gorged open-cut gold mine approximately 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi) long, 1.6 kilometres (1.0 mi) wide and 512 metres (1,680 ft) deep, symbolic of colonial prosperity and greed. The ongoing disdain toward Aboriginal people and the flippant nature of disregard toward Aboriginal culture was the kinder needed, it was the trigger needed to polarize a nation.

Abbott’s comment was in support of a position declared by the Western Australian State Premier Colin Barnett, who on 12 November 2014 announced that he would close up to 150 remote Aboriginal communities, saying the state could no longer afford to pay for essential services like power and electricity. The Premier’s comments were in response to the Federal Government’s decision to stop subsidizing these services in the middle of 2015, putting the financial responsibility on individual state governments, a statement Tony Abbott had made at the Garma Festival in 2013, well before he was voted into power.

In direct response to this, the website www.sosblakaustralia.com was set up by Sam Cook on 27 November 2014 as it was felt that this was an indicator for a bigger political strategy at play and backing Barnett’s proclamation of forced closures. It made a soft entry online and was launched via social media, calling for Aboriginal communities to register their needs and individuals to offer skills that could aid the community. This was with the view to be responsive and prepared for what was believed to be an assumption of Government that this was a fait accompli and that Aboriginal people would not fight back.

On the late evening of Thursday 12th March, this was about to change. A conversation thread began on Facebook by Darangah Nagarra Torres with Janine Dureau, Annette Kogolo and Nelson Kurni Bieundurry with the view to having a conversation around a rally or gathering event for Thursday 19th March to coincide with Australia’s Closing the Gap Day, a Government initiative that claimed to deliver sound service and results for Aboriginal participation into the broader Australian social fabric. Over the course of the evening this gained momentum as Ngigjingah Maryanne Skeen, Janella Isaac, Kelly Kitching, Jodie Bell, Kankawa Nagarra Knight, Lyn Shaw, Layangali Bieundurry, Lillian Chestnut, Jamie Davidson Darren Mitchelson, Tjapanangka Paylrntarri, Nawoola Miriwoong, Ebony Hill, Venessa Poelina, Anne Poelina, Johannah Kitching, Danny Teece Johnson and Sam Cook were added. By 2am on Friday 13 March Sam Cook had activated a social media effort as the public Facebook page ‘Stop the Forced Closure of Aboriginal Communities’ and closed organizers group was created. It was hoped that by the morning there may be close to 1,000 likes.

Seven hours later over 2,000 people had liked the page. It spoke loudly to those involved, that people did care and that Australians from all over the country were fed up with our Government. The exponential growth continued, bringing hope communities in the direct line of forced closure while binding the humanity of Australia and the world.

Five days later this action had mobilised every state and territory with 30 known community rallies of up to 30,000 people marching in the Streets. From the most remote Aboriginal Communities, small regional towns, major cities and the capital cities of Australia. Online a virtual protest raged, with international celebrity endorsement coming from Bianca Jagger, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Talib Kweli, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Ruby Rose, The Veronicas, Zimbabwe Kid amongst others. Our Aboriginal Australian and Australian artists and sportspeople stood solid in their support with major statements made at their various events and public platforms. The artistic response started to take shape with artwork, songs, poems, writings and street art campaigns underpinning a cultural revolution.

Importantly, there has been a reconnection with the Aboriginal Rights movement and key activists in the United States, with Angela Davis, Dr Cornel West and the American Indian Movement, Turtle Island (Canada) and Aotearoa, New Zealand, with a powerful outpouring of support from all levels of Maori Iwi (people), who are strong in their public stance. This is of historical significance as there is over 70 years of deep links forged between our civil rights and black rights movements. In the 21st Century this is now being redefined, re-awakened and garnering further strength.

In 30 days, ‘SOS BLAK AUSTRALIA, Stop the Forced Closures of Aboriginal Communities’ created a social media platform larger in population than that of the 26th largest city in Australia with a reach almost the size of 4th Capital City in Australia, which ironically, is the City of Perth, Western Australia, the capital of the State most under threat. These figures grow in the hundreds daily. Our reach extends beyond 12 million. These figures are already outdated in the time it has taken to write this.

At the back end, the plan goes far beyond calls to action and successive Governments or Prime Ministers, inclusive of the 29th Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull, who has remained silent and not undone any of the activity of Abbott in relation to Aboriginal Communities. What has been sitting at the heart of SOSBLAKAUSTRALIA is a humanitarian effort we are aiming to drive alongside the communities. It is our plan to get rid of the rhetoric around viability by replacing the flailing infrastructure and making all our communities sustainable through alternative power, water, waste solutions as well as repair years of neglected infrastructure. This is in line with our Sovereignty and we have individuals in the community already looking to the potential to take out a class action on behalf of our Aboriginal Nations against the State and Federal Government.

Our communities have issued a vote of no confidence in both State and Federal Governments and we are all aware that this is an epoch of upheaval as the ongoing attack by the incumbent Government has de-funded significant organisations who are the lifeblood for our people. It quite literally is genocide unfolding.

Yet we remain firm in our resolve and strong in our commitment to continue for as long as it takes to shift this supremacy regime off the backs of our people. We will stand against the great land grab for our mineral rich country that sit behind the influence of Government in their attempts to remove Aboriginal people from their traditional homelands. We shall overcome.

East India Company

A powerful corporation can still overwhelm or subvert a state every bit as effectively as the East India Company did in Bengal in 1765.

Corporations are evil entities and its evident they control politics on all levels.
For a century, the East India Company conquered, subjugated and plundered vast tracts of south Asia. The lessons of its brutal reign have never been more relevant.

Babakiueria from back in 1986

Satirical comedy.  This was put out in 1986 by a group of Redfern people.   They were sharp as tacks about the truth of what was the truth.

It took a while before a larger percentage woke up and now lots more people see the theft and the genocide that went on undocumented.  So many more folks speaking out and who are ashamed to be called Australian's because of such a dark and dreadful history.   - some of which is surfacing  now.  The treatment of children in institutions,  ripped from the arms of their mothers who were told they were going to a better life.  Instead,  they were brutalized and sexually abused and treated so badly it can hardly ever be excused.  The Church and the Government worked hand in hand to instigate this brutality.

The brutal genocide is ongoing and we are experiencing a third wave of definitive genocidal practices that are designed in a back handed way to eliminate cultural diversity.  (closing communities) (turning off water supply) (forced intervention).  Northern Territory government is a puppet government for the Federal System.  Their so called open gate to Indonesia.

Synopsis

A satire of the theft of this land by the British colonizers in 1770.  The script follows the plan to fully turn everything around the other way.  This is done to point out the blatant theft and the genocidal practices carried out on the first people of this land who did not invite this war nor did they consent to treatise.

Theft will always  be theft and until the truth is revealed regarding the white man's own law saying what they themselves have done is actually theft.
Babakiueria is named as a result of first contact between the coloniser's and the natives. Arriving at a barbecue area, the settlers ask the locals, ‘What’s this place called?’

Presenter Duranga Manika (Michelle Torres) looks back at this moment and at white people’s place in contemporary Babakiuerian society. She also spends time with a ‘typical’ white family.  Australian Screen

Tomorrow, the country blindly celebrates Australia Day.  This day is  an extremely sad day for the first peoples of the land.

The Australia Day / Invasion Day Celebration begin once again for 2015.  I will never forgive such a blind government that refuses to at least change the date of this b.s. national celebration of death .

They ought to be ashamed to call themselves leaders.  Politicians who are happy to continue to perform such contrived acts of  pain against the original people whose ancestors were brutalized for the sake of the colonists.  It must stop.

Australia's Dark Secrets

I cry . .
People die,
we stand by

N let em turn the f#$%ing water off
WHY?
Everyday I wake up
this vision forced in my eyes
I know there are many

Wearing a cleverly hidden disguise.
The truth is the Australian Government are a joke.  The rest of the natural and normal world looks on and cringes when Tony Abbott or similar open their mouths.  They would have to be the most undereducated people left on the planet.  Oh sure they read and write but as far as education making them fully rounded - Far from it.   These government retards are flat earth people who belong in the dark ages.   Please read on through the wonderful piece of truthful writing below by  Pemulwuy,  it is the truth.

I have seen this myself and this is what makes me cry.  I just don't know where to turn to help make this go away.  The hell of knowing the truth that this goes on and on each new day is painfully excruciating to my soul.

When you think of dream destinations and places you would like to live, many people think of Australia. A beautiful country indeed with a clean image, no wars and a stable society. But scratch the surface and what you will find will shock you. Here are just 10 of Australia’s darkest secrets.

Australia’s Dark Secrets

 Highest Suicide Rates

Australia is home to the highest rates of child suicide in the world. Please don’t be confused, this is not the national rate. I am talking about rates inside Aboriginal communities. 20 years ago, suicide in Aboriginal communities was literally unheard of, but with increased government pressure on remote communities it became more prevalent since the year 2000 and the numbers went off the charts after the governments military backed intervention (that breached human rights) started in 2007.
It was found that child suicide increased by 500% in 12 months after the intervention started. The Intervention is still happening now after the government decided it was worthwhile to extend it for 10 years.
Worlds lowest life expectancy rates
Similarly, life expectancy in some Australian Aboriginal communities is less than or equal to 3rd world countries in sub-Saharan west Africa (around 37-40 years).

Black Imprisonment rates higher than in South Africa during Apartheid
Incarceration rates of Black Australians are higher than the rate of incarceration for Blacks in South Africa during the last 10 years of Apartheid. This is the most complicated topic to explain. Of course there are some Indigenous Australians who should be locked up. However there are thousands of men and women who are in jail for breaking laws that only apply to Indigenous Australians (such as drinking laws). Many are also affected by mandatory sentencing laws which sees the power of discretion taken away from the judge and subsequently forces many first time offenders straight to jail. Other reasons include simply missing a court date due to travel requirements or ill health.

10 Dark Secrets Australia Doesn’t Want You To Know Concentration Camps Copy 300x196 10 Dark Secrets Australia Doesn’t Want You To Know
Genocidal Treatment
First attempt at Genocide
By 1911, 123 years after the British Illegal Arrival, the Indigenous population had dropped from 750,000 to just 31,000! The official explanation is “disease” but when you dig deeper you will learn of the frontier wars and massacres, many of which are documented but strangely denied and not recognized by the government to this very day.

Second attempt at Genocide (breeding us out)
In 1997, the Australian Government found itself guilty of Genocide. See: Bringing Them Home – the Stolen Generation Report 1997. The report focused on the policy known as the “stolen generation”, referring to the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families. After the report went public, all that was offered to victims and their families was an apology with no chance for compensation of any kind. And right now, in 2014, the Government is taking more children from black families than ever before!
The belief was and still remains that if a child is brought up in a white family they will go on to marry a white partner and the colour of their children and grandchildren will be lost within 2 or 3 generations.

War and Massacres
Most Australians will tell you that Australia has never been home to any wars. That is what is taught In Australian schools, but it is simply not true. From the late 18th century until the mid 20th century many wars and massacres have occurred. Some conflicts lasted no more than a week while other conflicts lasted for over 5 years. Australians are proud of their recent war history overseas and it is commemorated each year, but when we try to honor our own black warriors who died on home soil, we are stopped by a line of police every year!

Australia Day is Invasion Day
Australia’s national day (Australia Day) is on the anniversary date of the illegal arrival of the English settlers. When you think of what this arrival meant to Indigenous Australians you know it’s not a day to celebrate, but the Australian government refuses to change the date of its national day and at the same time claims to be working towards reconciliation!

No Democracy for Blacks
Even today, when we try to have our voices heard by the world we are continually met by resistance, from walls of police who together with the nation’s media, systematically silence us. What is the problem with peacefully marching through a park on Australia day to remind people of the insensitivity it promotes? In May, when Prince William and Kate came to Australia many Indigenous Australians were removed from crowds and denied the chance to communicate (with protest signs) against the illegal occupation.
Don’t preach democracy if you can’t let me be Aboriginal – and speak my truth.

The Final Attempt at Genocide Happening Right Now 10 Dark Secrets Australia Doesn’t Want You To Know
The Bishop

The Final Attempt at Genocide is Happening Right Now
Lets see the facts: an excerpt from the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.
“Article II: In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
The crown government today is still committing acts of Genocide under parts C and E of the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide. ‘Dark Secret #5′ above highlighted how the government is now stealing more Aboriginal children than ever before. Now I want to shed some light on how the government is guilty of part C – inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction.
The government can no longer chain us up or contain us in concentration camps like in years gone by. So now they are trying to destroy our communities in a variety of different ways, in the hope that we will relocate to major towns. Here are some examples in point form:
  • Removing children from their families.
  • Cutting off basic medical needs.
  • Ignoring needs for basic infrastructure such as public transport.
  • Labeling remote communities as pedophile breeding grounds (In the media, and with suggestive warning signs at the entrance of remote communities).
  • Taking away community work programs.
  • Neglecting aboriginal housing programs.
  • Withholding and freezing bank accounts.
All of the measures have been implemented for one main goal. The government wants to completely put an end to Indigenous Australians living on our traditional home lands. They want us in larger towns, living, working and following their western values. Reports show that we are far more healthier and happier when we live traditionally on our home lands, however the government does not respect our desires for health and happiness as that would mean, letting us stand in the way of their quest to mine our mineral rich land that we never ever want taken away.

What the government fails to understand is that our connection to our country is real and strong. No matter how dire our communities become we will never leave, but unfortunately the younger generation is failing to cope under the current neglectful measures now in place. Even children from war torn countries have more hope for the future.
This is truly the final attempt at Genocide on my people and, as I see it, it can only end in two ways:
  • An intervention to stop the illegal freeloading government.
  • Allowing the illegal government to win and let our race die out completely.
Government censorship
Australia is a huge land and it has always been impossible to communicate and unite with all Indigenous Australians.
The world never heard our screams in the early days of invasion and up until now, most of the world has been unaware of the history and plight of indigenous Australians. Many people believe that white people naturally come from Australia or they don’t even know that we (Aboriginals) still exist.
But now social media has given us a way to have our voices heard. In the last 2 years many indigenous Australians have gained access to social media and I recognized that this would be a great way to bring our people together, from all the different tribal estates, share our stories and unite against oppressive governments and restore hope for our collective future.

Unfortunately the government also sees the potential for us to be successful in this way and subsequently blocks our efforts, without any explanation. Also, social media pages that I run have continually been attacked with racist posts and pictures, while death threats have also been “In-boxed” on many occasions.

Nothing can stand against the truth

Finally I want to show you how and why this all started!

10 Dark Secrets Australia Doesn’t Want You To Know Boat People 10 Dark Secrets Australia Doesn’t Want You To Know
Boat People?  You all came on Boats!

To this very day Australia remains the only commonwealth country not to have signed a treaty with the native population whose land it occupies.

So how can Australia be a legally recognized country? It isn’t! And we will prove it in international courts, with your support.

Without a treaty, proof of purchase or a declaration of war, the Australian government has no legal standing over Indigenous Australians.

Ever since the early days of invasion the European settlers have been calculating to wipe out our race or completely assimilate it into their western way of living.

But my people will never break. We have the oldest continuing surviving culture in the world, we survived the last ice age and we will never give away our most sacred possession, our land!

Within our culture we hold the key to world sustainability. If the world can restore human rights of self determination and independence for my people we will in turn, restore hope for the survival of our planet.

Petition - The Queensland Premier is selling off Aboriginal lands to frackers -- and the UN is taking notice.

The SUM of US Petition Site located HERE

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman.

A fracking company and the Queensland government are conspiring to trample Aboriginal rights and put vital waterways at risk.

Santos Ltd., the oil and gas giant, recently struck a deal with Premier Campbell Newman to allow fracking through Queensland's Channel Country. This territory has traditionally been the home of the Mathaka people, whose cultural identity and way of life depend on the waterways that Santos intends to pollute.

Previously, this fragile ecosystem was protected by wild rivers legislation. When pressured by Santos, however, the Newman government changed the law to allow for fracking of shale oil deposits there. The Mithaka, unable to have their voices heard by their own state government, have asked the UN to intervene! This wouldn't be necessary if Premier Newman had not decided that a corporation's profits are more important than citizens' rights.

Sign the petition to Premier Newman, demanding that he reinstate the wild rivers laws and respect indigenous rights!

Fracking is dangerous and destructive to land, wildlife, and people. A new scientific study in America, where fracking has been big business for over a decade, finds that any amount of the chemical cocktail used by frackers is toxic to humans!

Children and developing fetuses, especially, will suffer life-long health problems after exposure to even a small amount of fracking's poisonous mix. Contaminated drinking water is common in areas with fracking – and there's no way to clean up fracking chemicals once they're in the water table.

This is why wild rivers laws exist. Premier Newman's decision to subvert the law and disregard indigenous rights is shameful, and a dangerous precedent not just for Queensland but for the entire nation.

Tell Premier Newman not to exempt frackers from the law, and to protect indigenous rights and wild waterways.

Stronger Futures bill is very worrying.

Australia Day is nothing but a toast to genocide.
~ Mary  Peters ~

SAM_7834

Several of the clauses of the Stronger Futures bill are very worrying.  It does away with recognizing any indigenous rights / rites of the children and forbids these children to participate in normal ceremonial practices for example Sorry Days when an elder or person of the community  passes.  These day's can go on for days.

If the child does not go to school even more restrictions are put in place.  This legislation also leaves no place for any further home schooling of any children.  Therefore excluding them from the option of learning both culturally and academically.  This is Genocide.  This type of control is set to be rolled out to all centrelink recipients.
