Plato's "On the Soul".

The souls of the dead must exist in some
place for them to be able to return to life

Plato's Phædo or Phaedo (/ˈfiːdoʊ/; Greek: Φαίδων, Phaidōn, Greek pronunciation: [pʰaídɔːn]), also known to ancient readers as Plato's On The Soul, is one of the great dialogues of his middle period, along with the Republic and the Symposium. The Phaedo, which depicts the death of Socrates, is also Plato's fourth and last dialogue to detail the philosopher's final days, following Euthyphro, Apology, and Crito.

The Cyclical Argument

Cebes voices his fear of death to Socrates: "...they fear that when she [the soul] has left the body her place may be nowhere, and that on the very day of death she may perish and come to an end immediately on her release from the body...dispersing and vanishing away into nothingness in her flight."

In order to alleviate Cebes' worry that the soul might perish at death, Socrates introduces his first argument for the immortality of the soul. This argument is often called the Cyclical Argument. It supposes that the soul must be immortal since the living come from the dead.

Socrates says: "Now if it be true that the living come from the dead, then our souls must exist in the other world, for if not, how could they have been born again?"

He goes on to show, using examples of relationships, such as asleep-awake and hot-cold, that things that have opposites come to be from their opposite. One falls asleep after having been awake. And after being asleep, he awakens. Things that are hot can become cold and vice versa. Socrates then gets Cebes to conclude that the dead are generated from the living, through death, and that the living are generated from the dead, through birth. The heart . . the light must pierce the heart to see into the soul of the world ..   this is an image of a heart in the clouds that reminded me of peeking what it is like to want to peek into the soul of the world.

Symbolism - The Language of the Soul.

This window is the place where I do a lot of imagining.  I usually dream about big projects though and know what to do.

It is through the Soul's imagination that we can increase our capacity to know the divine; This is our spiritual growth.  This is a process of learning the archetypal language of the soul.  This is not a static language.  It is not an alphabet or symbol system.  It is the language of the imagination.

The imagination allows us to in-vision, to open the mind so that we can explore and discover the Soul's Archetypal world.  The imagination takes us beyond the banal identifications and routine symbolic representations into the depths, into the unknown within, and it is there that we encounter a divine landscape.

While current religious believers often seek God's wisdom outside of themselves, visionaries and mystics know that God speaks to the soul.  This divine communion with the soul is experienced through dreams and visions.

Jung says that the believer should not boggle at the fact that there are somnia a deo missa (Dreams sent by God) and illuminations of the soul which cannot be traced back to any external causes" (IBID, PARA. II).

But the vast majority do not turn inward to find God.  They seek God in the heavens above, in the church, in their religious leaders, even Gurus and mountaintops, but not within the soul.

Understanding the Soul.

It is often argued that the seat of the soul is located either at the head, Heart, Spine or Stomach and truth be known it is all of the above.

The ancient Egyptians believed the Soul was made up of different part.  these different area's of the Ethereal Body.  The Conscious element of our soul is located at the 3rd Eye/ Pineal Gland.  This is where we consciously process all the information we take in visually.

The Emotional element of our soul is located in the stomach.  This is where we process environmental information the eyes can  not visually access hence the term 'Gut Feeling".  Both are connected to the Heart which then emotionally interprets these conscious and emotional parts of our soul.
