CSG miners to start work taking rock samples at Glenugie

COAL seam gas miner Metgasco has downplayed the significance of activity at a site at Glenugie where it is preparing to take rock samples.
A neighbour, George Oxenbridge, was alarmed when he saw trucks and an excavator on the site on Avenue Rd at Glenugie yesterday.
Mr Oxenbridge said Metgasco had promised to notify people in the region before any activity took place, but nothing had been provided.
Late yesterday CSG protesters were considering a blockade of the site.
Clarence Valley Alliance Against Coal Seam Gas's Seanine Cooper said the groups under this umbrella would have discussions overnight before deciding.
Metgasco CEO Peter Henderson said the company has had regular contact with Mr Oxenbridge.
"I have spoken to him, our general manager for exploration has spoken to him, our operations manager has spoken to him, our HS&E officer has spoken to him, our land manager has spoken to him and our receptionist has spoken to him," Mr Henderson said.
"The work that we are currently doing at Glenugie is preparing the site in preparation for the arrival of core hole equipment.
"This is similar to the work that would be done to build a shed pad and will be completed by the end of the week.
"The drilling of a core hole involves the removal of a section of rock from formations containing coal approximately 10cm in diameter and does not involve the extraction of natural gas.
"The proposed work has been approved by the Department of Resources and Energy.

Mr Oxenbridge also talked with the company about taking a baseline water sample before work commences.
"There's a clear pool of water near the road which would give a good picture of the state of the water on the site," he said.
He said the company agreed to take a sample in the next few days.
